I am usually one of those people who can only read one book at a time. But lately, I have been reading two or three books at once. I am not sure how I am accomplishing this with an almost-two year old, but…Right now, I am reading two books; one for the student book club at school, and one for the book club I am in outside of school.
The school book club is reading Eon by Alison Goodman. The story is set in early China, with dragons and apprentices and masters. Each year of the chinese calendar has a dragon associated with it, and each year, the Dragoneye Master who is the Master of that year’s dragon ascends to power. Eon is in training in hopes of being chosen by the Rat Dragon as an Apprentice, but Eon has a secret: he is a she, and girls are not allowed to be Dragoneyes. Eon is chosen, though, but not by the Rat Dragon. And now the real challenges begin.
My outside-of-school book club is reading The Gravedigger’s Daughter by Joyce Carol Oates. I haven’t read as much of this one, but what I know so far is that the main family in the story has moved from Europe to the US. The father was a teacher, but now he is the caretaker of a cemetery, and everyone makes fun of him and his kids. The story is set during the 1940s, so I think something about the Nazis will be involved. It is okay so far. At 570 pages, it will take me a while to get through!
What are you reading right now?
