There are many different book awards, and the process for giving out those awards is quite lengthy.  But even at that, I still don’t always agree with the awards given to the books.  For example, a few years ago, the novel Going Bovine by Libba Bray won the Printz Award for Young Adult Literature.  I read that book and thought it was so stupid, I skimmed the majority of it because it was for book club.  If it hadn’t been for book club, I would have abandoned it!  But others in my book club, like Mrs. Goldberg, loved the book – there is a talking gnome, so if you know Mrs. Goldberg, you know why she loved it!

I haven’t had a chance to read any of the newest award winners, but I did order them for the library.  The 2013 Printz Award (Winterblood by Marcus Sedgwick), Newbery Medal (Flora & Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures, written by Kate DiCamillo), Pulitzer in several categories, and National Book Award books, plus many of the honor books, are in the library, so come by and check them out!
