Halloween has never been my favorite holiday. I am not good at thinking of costumes, and as you know, in Colorado, it always snows around Halloween, and I don’t like snow. But now that my son is 2, it might be more fun. Maybe I will try to think of costumes to represent characters in my favorite books – could that help my lack of creativity when it comes to dressing up? We’ll see. Here are 17 literary costumes from BuzzFeed.
Come by the library to check out a creepy book to read to get you in the spirit of Halloween! Here are some of my favorites:
Pretty much any Stephen King – but The Shining is one of the best.
And really, any Dean Koontz books, too.
You could pick up The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. Not creepy, necessarily, but magic.
And there are always Grimm’s Fairy Tales – read them and compare to the Disney films. Grimm’s are much more…grim.
And how about Spook by Mary Roach? It is a book about what happens when we die…does our soul leave us? Can we contact the dead? Roach explores these topics with humor.
Curl up with a flashlight and cover your head with a blanket to protect yourself from the bad guys!
