The new book by Harper Lee, who wrote To Kill a Mockingbird, came out this summer.  I had been suspicious of the whole deal when I first heard she was publishing a new book; after all, she had written only one book, has done very few rare interviews, stayed out of the public eye, and never published anything else, not even a short story.  PLUS, her sister, who was a lawyer and took care of Lee’s legal affairs, died just before they announced the new book would be published.  Hmmm…

I didn’t buy the book for myself, because I am not sure it was published with integrity, but I did buy it for the library.  I am still not sure I am going to read it.  I love To Kill a Mockingbird (I have read it at least 15 times; yes, for teaching it, but I wouldn’t have read it cover to cover if I didn’t love it), and I just don’t know if Harper Lee actually wanted the book to be published.

There are lots of reviews out there, many of the unfavorable, but someone just today told me she felt Go Set a Watchman is better than To Kill a Mockingbird.  I will reserve judgment until I maybe read the book.

Come by the library to check it out!

Happy reading@!
