Will we have flying cars? Have live feeds of TV, ads, and phone in our heads? Live on Mars? (For the record, I don’t think we should live on Mars; we already destroyed one planet, why should we get to go to another one?) We all speculate, and science fiction as a genre is great at trying to predict the future. Have you read the novel 1984 by George Orwell? Big Brother is always watching everyone in the story, and sometimes, I think we are pretty close to that right now. And he wrote that in 1948!
Science fiction also explores our fears as a society. And tries to solve our societal problems.. Sure, sometimes this genre explores seemingly impossible and improbable lives, settings, and events, but it is amazing how accurate ideas from these stories can be!
