Fall is the best time of year!

I love fall.  I probably write this every fall, but I really do love it.  I love the leaves changing, the cooler weather, the way the sun falls on my patio in my backyard.  It starts to be time to be cozy and make yummy soup and casseroles.  And, it is getting time to read more mystery stories as we get closer to Halloween,  Which, even thought I love fall, I do  not love Halloween…but I love horror stories…I know.  It doesn’t really make sense.  Whatever.

One of the classic mystery/suspense writers is Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the author of the famous Sherlock Holmes.  Sherlock is in our every day lives, even if you don’t realize he is there!  Here is a list of “7 Must-Read Sherlock Holmes Stories” put together by Signature.

Grab some good reading, get cozy, and enjoy!

Happy Reading!

And, we’re back

The start of a new school year is always so exciting, and nerve wracking.  Exciting to see friends we haven’t seen all summer, nerve wracking to have to learn a new schedule and make new friends.  But, in either case, here we are!

I hope you all had a chance to do some fun things this summer and relax, and READ!  I did all of that, and managed to get 21 books read this summer!  I don’t really know how that happened.  I read some really good books, though!  You can see what I read by clicking on the Goodreads link in the right sidebar…A lot of my reading time was spent in one of my favorite reading places: under the tree in my backyard.  My favorite reading place changes with the seasons, and this tree is the best for the summer!

We have tons of new books in the library, so come by and check something out!  Everyone needs fun books to read, even during school.

Two fun voting opportunities for you: Blue Spruce Award nominees and the Teen’s Top Ten Award nominees are ready to be read and voted on!  Come by to grab a book and vote!

Happy Reading!

Collect that summer reading!

Get a huge stack!  Find lots of good books!  I always have many books to read, because I never know what I will want next.  And sometimes the book which sounded good last week is no longer the one I want to read, so I have to have lots of options.

Here is a list from Epic Reads of what to read after Everything, Everything.  I haven’t read that one yet, but it is on my list.  I did read Nicola’s Yoon’s other book, The Sun is Also a Star, and I liked that one.

So many, many books, so little time…

Have a great summer!  Happy binge reading!

The Handmaid’s Tale

The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood was recently made into a movie, which I have not seen and probably won’t, a I don’t watch movies made from books.  They always change things I feel they shouldn’t, and my ideas of characters and such don’t usually match.

Anyway, I would categorize this novel as a dystopia, in which there is a repressive government that forces individuals to all be the same, do the same, follow the same, but which in turn causes some individuals to question that structure and challenge what has been set out for them to follow.  There are so many great novels in this genre, such as The Giver by Lois Lowry and 1984 by George Orwell.   Here is a list from Epic Reads of books to read if you like The Handmaid’s Tale, but if you like dystopias, this is a good list for ideas of where to go next.

Stretch your reading this summer!  If this isn’t the type of book you normally read, try one.  🙂

Happy reading!

FREE audio books! Starting NOW!

I have to admit, audio books are hard for me to listen to.  I have a hard time keeping track of characters, pieces of the plot, and where the story is in time.  I like to go back in the pages of an actual book to look at who is who and what information I dropped somewhere in my reading.  The same reasons I don’t read ebooks…

Anyway, Sync is offering TWO FREE audio books every week for you to download from now until August 16!  And then they are yours to keep forever!

The list this year is pretty amazing, I think.  And it is easy to get the books.  Go to the Sync website to get your FREE books!  Make sure you put the Overdrive app on your device first, as that is the program the audio books go through.

With only three weeks of school left, it is time to start thinking about your summer reading list…summer really is the best time to dig in to some awesome reading.  Play Summer Reading Bingo, start a book challenge, sign up for the Summer Reading Program at the Public Library, try something new.

Start stockpiling books, and happy reading!
